The mission of the Board is to officiate in land use matters to ensure the highest standards of compliance with the Carroll County Code of Public Local Laws and Ordinances, to ensure the proper interpretation and implementation of land use requests, and to ensure that zoning requests are in compliance with the laws and
regulations of Carroll County relating to conditional uses, nonconforming uses, compliance with zoning decisions, zoning certificates, and variances.
The responsibilities of the Board are to:
• Hold hearings monthly to adjudicate on land use matters, applications and appeals.
• Consider the Master Plan and the County zoning ordinance in reaching decisions on matters that come before the Board.
• Discuss County policies and procedures related to land use and zoning matters.
• Make recommendations to the Board of Carroll County Commissioners concerning land use and zoning regulations.
• Assist the citizens and County personnel of Carroll County in interpreting, instituting and enforcing land use and zoning matters.
